Meet Doris.

Doris is not a real person. She is every person. She is the 83-year-old who has waited too long for a care package. The young adult with a learning disability trying to live independently. The complex care client whose needs have outgrown the systems designed to support them.

Doris is the reason the sector exists. And she is the reason we do what we do. When organisations come to us for help with technology, data, transformation or change, we measure success by one thing: does this make life better for Doris?

That framing changes how we work. It keeps us honest, practical, and focused on outcomes that matter, not process for its own sake.

Doris
A composite of every person supported across the health and social care sector. The ultimate stakeholder in every project we take on.
Deserves care that is joined-up and dignified
Is often let down by systems that weren't designed around her
Benefits most when technology genuinely serves people
Depends on organisations that are well-run and well-led
Is at the centre of every decision we help our clients make

Our services

We work with boards, executive teams, and operational leadership across health and social care. Our work spans strategy through to hands-on delivery, across the full digital and change spectrum.

Digital Transformation

End-to-end digital change programmes designed around real-world care delivery. From strategy and architecture through to implementation and adoption. Built to land, not just launch.

Data Strategy & Analytics

Turning care data into operational insight. Data infrastructure, dashboards, reporting frameworks and performance intelligence that drive better decisions at every level of the organisation.

AI & Automation

Practical application of AI and automation in health and social care contexts. Identifying genuine use cases, building the business case, managing risk, and implementing safely and ethically.

Change Management

Change that actually lands with the people who deliver care. Engagement frameworks, communications, training design, and readiness assessment, grounded in the operational reality of care services.

System Procurement & Implementation

Sourcing, selecting and deploying care management systems, workforce tools and technology platforms. From requirements definition and supplier evaluation through to go-live and beyond.

IT Strategy & Technology Roadmaps

Board-ready technology strategies that translate ambition into a credible plan. Infrastructure, architecture, supplier landscape and investment prioritisation. All grounded in sector realities.

Supplier & Contract Management

Holding technology suppliers to account and extracting genuine value from technology contracts. Relationship management, SLA governance, dispute resolution and renegotiation support.

Operating Model & Restructure

Designing support functions that work. Head office structure, team design, roles and governance, built around what care organisations actually need at each stage of growth.

Service Design & Innovation

Designing new care pathways, service models and delivery approaches. Translating strategic ambition into operational blueprints. From concept and feasibility through to pilot and scale.

What we bring

A track record that speaks for itself

Building a technology function from scratch
City & County Healthcare Group
At one of the UK's largest care groups: 31 operating companies, 200+ care locations, 12,000 staff, 21,000 people supported. We led digital transformation at board level, designing and building multiple new functions from the ground up: BI & Reporting, Digital Learning, System Implementation, Change Management and Application Support. The work touched every part of the business, from front-line care delivery through to group-wide operational strategy.
Driving emerging technology at national scale
Barnardo's
Technology leadership at the UK's largest children's charity, with over 800 services across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Emerging technology strategy, continuous improvement and digital innovation across one of the most complex multi-site organisations in the charity sector.
Co-founding an AI health analytics business
AVERio
Taking a personalised AI-driven health and wellbeing analytics platform from ideation through to market-ready product, built specifically for the health and social care sector. That experience of building a technology business from within the sector shapes how we think about what is genuinely useful versus what is noise.
Programme and change delivery across specialist care
Voyage Care & Allied Healthcare
Change management, system implementation and operational improvement across specialist services for adults with learning disabilities, autism and acquired brain injury, and across national homecare operations serving tens of thousands of people.

Seventeen years. Every care setting.

The DifD team brings over 17 years of experience working across health and social care, both as practitioners embedded inside some of the sector's largest and most complex organisations, and as consultants supporting providers to solve real operational and strategic challenges.

That experience spans every major care setting: homecare, extra care, complex care, supported living, learning disabilities, residential, children's and specialist services. It spans organisations at very different sizes and stages of maturity, from regional providers to national groups operating at significant scale.

Working at board and director level across multiple organisations, we bring the strategic clarity and the delivery credibility to operate at any level of an engagement: from shaping a three-year technology strategy to ensuring a system implementation lands well for frontline staff.

We also hold an active angel investment position in early-stage health and social care technology businesses and have served as a trustee in the care charity sector, which means we stay genuinely close to where the sector is heading, and understand governance as well as delivery.

How we work

Our approach

01

Honest before comfortable

We tell clients what we actually think, not what they want to hear. That means identifying problems clearly, flagging risks early, and recommending what is right for the organisation rather than what is easiest to sell.

02

Operational first

Strategy that cannot survive contact with the front line is not strategy. Everything we design is tested against the reality of care delivery. We understand rotas, risk assessments, CQC inspections, and the pressures facing care coordinators.

03

Doris as the measure

Every recommendation we make is filtered through a simple question: does this ultimately improve the experience of the person being supported? Technology, data, and digital change are only worth pursuing if they serve that purpose.

Start a conversation.

Whether you have a defined project or a challenge you are still working through, we are happy to talk. No hard sell, just a straight conversation about whether and how we can help.

We work with a range of organisations across health and social care, from independent and regional providers through to national groups and charities.

Typical engagements range from a focused strategy or procurement piece through to multi-year transformation programmes. We can also provide interim and fractional leadership where that is the right model.

Initial conversations are always without obligation.
