Social Care Consulting
Doing it for Doris brings together deep sector expertise and genuine digital capability to help health and social care organisations navigate change, harness data, and build services that actually work.
"The sector has never needed good thinking more than it does right now."
Why we exist
Doris is not a real person. She is every person. She is the 83-year-old who has waited too long for a care package. The young adult with a learning disability trying to live independently. The complex care client whose needs have outgrown the systems designed to support them.
Doris is the reason the sector exists. And she is the reason we do what we do. When organisations come to us for help with technology, data, transformation or change, we measure success by one thing: does this make life better for Doris?
That framing changes how we work. It keeps us honest, practical, and focused on outcomes that matter, not process for its own sake.
What we do
We work with boards, executive teams, and operational leadership across health and social care. Our work spans strategy through to hands-on delivery, across the full digital and change spectrum.
End-to-end digital change programmes designed around real-world care delivery. From strategy and architecture through to implementation and adoption. Built to land, not just launch.
Turning care data into operational insight. Data infrastructure, dashboards, reporting frameworks and performance intelligence that drive better decisions at every level of the organisation.
Practical application of AI and automation in health and social care contexts. Identifying genuine use cases, building the business case, managing risk, and implementing safely and ethically.
Change that actually lands with the people who deliver care. Engagement frameworks, communications, training design, and readiness assessment, grounded in the operational reality of care services.
Sourcing, selecting and deploying care management systems, workforce tools and technology platforms. From requirements definition and supplier evaluation through to go-live and beyond.
Board-ready technology strategies that translate ambition into a credible plan. Infrastructure, architecture, supplier landscape and investment prioritisation. All grounded in sector realities.
Holding technology suppliers to account and extracting genuine value from technology contracts. Relationship management, SLA governance, dispute resolution and renegotiation support.
Designing support functions that work. Head office structure, team design, roles and governance, built around what care organisations actually need at each stage of growth.
Designing new care pathways, service models and delivery approaches. Translating strategic ambition into operational blueprints. From concept and feasibility through to pilot and scale.
What we bring
The DifD team brings over 17 years of experience working across health and social care, both as practitioners embedded inside some of the sector's largest and most complex organisations, and as consultants supporting providers to solve real operational and strategic challenges.
That experience spans every major care setting: homecare, extra care, complex care, supported living, learning disabilities, residential, children's and specialist services. It spans organisations at very different sizes and stages of maturity, from regional providers to national groups operating at significant scale.
Working at board and director level across multiple organisations, we bring the strategic clarity and the delivery credibility to operate at any level of an engagement: from shaping a three-year technology strategy to ensuring a system implementation lands well for frontline staff.
We also hold an active angel investment position in early-stage health and social care technology businesses and have served as a trustee in the care charity sector, which means we stay genuinely close to where the sector is heading, and understand governance as well as delivery.
Sector reach
Across our careers we have worked alongside, led change within, or delivered consulting for a wide range of health and social care organisations. The list below reflects the scale and diversity of that experience, from national homecare groups to specialist community providers.
How we work
We tell clients what we actually think, not what they want to hear. That means identifying problems clearly, flagging risks early, and recommending what is right for the organisation rather than what is easiest to sell.
Strategy that cannot survive contact with the front line is not strategy. Everything we design is tested against the reality of care delivery. We understand rotas, risk assessments, CQC inspections, and the pressures facing care coordinators.
Every recommendation we make is filtered through a simple question: does this ultimately improve the experience of the person being supported? Technology, data, and digital change are only worth pursuing if they serve that purpose.
Get in touch
Whether you have a defined project or a challenge you are still working through, we are happy to talk. No hard sell, just a straight conversation about whether and how we can help.
We work with a range of organisations across health and social care, from independent and regional providers through to national groups and charities.
Typical engagements range from a focused strategy or procurement piece through to multi-year transformation programmes. We can also provide interim and fractional leadership where that is the right model.
Initial conversations are always without obligation.
